The Largest Lung Transplant Program in the Region

Lung transplant surgeons at the University of Minnesota.

The Largest Lung Transplant Program in the Region
Since 1986, University of Minnesota surgeons have performed more than 450 lung transplants in children and adults. University of Minnesota physicians are leaders in using lung transplantation to reduce the impact of cystic fibrosis and other advanced lung diseases and have pioneered many surgical and medical innovations in lung and heart/lung transplantation.

Exceptional success
Lung transplant survival rates for patients who come to our program are significantly higher than national averages. For example, patients at three years post-transplant have a 69 percent survival rate, compared to a national average of 52 percent. Ongoing studies of outcomes after lung transplantation demonstrate marked improvements in nearly every aspect of health-related quality of life.
